Hex 39 - Fire Leaf Forest

Shielded from the harsh mountain wind by two peaks, this small valley is the unique patch of deciduous trees in a sea of pines. The fiery colour of their leaves at this time of the year gives it its name.

Biome: Mountain Forest. Orange maples, steep rocky slopes, cold crisp air, crows far away, bogs.

Encounter Rules

Generate an encounter the first time the party goes to one of this hex’s features and every 12 hours. Encounters can happen on the way to the location or at the destination. If an encounter would happen while the party rests, good survival skills while setting up camp make the encounter happen after the full rest is completed. Search the Baldur’s Gate Wiki for information on named NPC. Do not hesitate to replace any named NPC by one the players have already met from time to time! It makes for a better story.

Feature A - Eggs of the Dragon

This peculiar cluster of ovoid black rocks is used by local rangers as a landmark to find their way back to Nashkel. Many believe they are eggs that will one day hatch.

Feature B - Staring Ranger

This man-sized standing stone is used by local rangers as a landmark. Those attuned with druidic magic can feel the layline that links it to the Eggs of the Dragon.

Feature C - The Magister’s Refuge

If one stands exactly at the middle point between the Staring Ranger and the Eggs of the Dragon, they will see a spherical arcane dome 40 feet across. This is one of the many hidden refuges set by Magister Maldiglas Turntower. Anybody inside is freed from arcane curses, regenerates wounds, and is shielded from the outside world.
